Meetings with Doukhobor-Canadians in British Columbia

"Minden’s methodology is implicitly dialogical ...The title introduces the group, not as a group, but as a concentration of individuals in a series of meetings with the photographer."

Martha Langford  "Robert Minden, Photographer and Storyteller" West Coast Line 35/1 Spring 2001- Photography, Autobiographical Memory, Cultural Literacy

The photographs were made in the Doukhobor communities in the southern interior of British Columbia situated between Grand Forks and Nelson and up into the Slocan Valley, over a period of seven years, between 1973 and 1979. Their basic rhythm derives from a deep sense of loss and shared memory of a shattered experiment in collective living.
